The decision to start International Council of Biodeterioration of Cultural Property was taken under the dynamic leadership of Padma Shri Dr. O.P. Agrawal after a National Conference held in NRLC Lucknow in 1989. Dr. Shashi Dhawan, Head of Bio-deterioration Division acted as its coordinator. An International Conference was organized in 1992 in Yokahama in japan after that in 1995 it became a registered body. Currently the Council is helping to train the manpower in the field of conservation of Cultural Property, by guiding them through workshops and conferences. Society has also helped to generate scientific literature in the field. It is currently headed by Dr. Virendra Nath, Former Scientist G from CSIR-NBRI Lucknow. During last 4 decades the Council has organized several National and International Seminars and workshops and published books and Newsletter in the fields of conservation and biodeterioration. Society is blessed to have association with experts like Dr. D Allsopp & Dr. M. R. D. Seaward from the United Kingdom, Dr. N. L.Rebricova & Dr. G A Zaitseva from USSR, Dr. Vinod Daniel from Australia, C. Aranyanak from Thailand, Prof. Mandana Berkeshli from Malaysia. Dr. Hideo Arai from Japan took a great interest in the academic activities. He not only chaired International Conferences buthave supported our conservation efforts too.
